Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) No, this is not a tribute to the rock band "Genesis"... The "Genesis" aka "Mega Drive" referenced here is a video game console developed by SEGA, manufactured between 1988 and 1997. It featured a Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesizer and a TI SN76489 programmable sound generator, controlled by a Z80 CPU, to produce sound. While music programmed on this console still sounds quite synthetic and rough, it's much smoother than the output of the Nintendo NES and SNES consoles. This compilation comprises lots of soundtracks scored for various popular video games on the "Genesis", clearly demonstrating that most of them are real chiptune masterpieces with a notable artistic ambition, rather than just mere background noise. Favorite track: Sonic The Hedgehog.
